Prologue

Loudoun County Transit developed training courses to teach county residents how to use local public transit to increase their access to work, school, and other vital services in the area.

The client needed new walk-through videos for training sessions and social media, as well as photographs for their training presentations.

Work was completed while employed at Sagetopia.

Process

Though these videos would not be animations, I used a storyboard approach to plan the shots that would go with each line of the script, including the angles and camera movements. Given only a short window of time in which to film, I also had to plan which shots — both videos and photos — could be combined in one setting and recorded out of order to maximize efficiency.

During the shoot, I had two cameras set up for several of the shots — one on a tripod and one on a gimbal. Having two angles made it possible to show a more comprehensive view of some of the steps involved in using public transit, which supported our goal of helping people easily understand how to use the transit system.

I also filmed reel-style POV videos using a mobile phone and gimbal to show the process of getting on and off various types of transit from the perspective of the traveler.

The client requested variations in different dimensions as well as different languages. We generated a voiceover using AI and I checked each word for the proper pronunciation in both English and Spanish.

Product

The final videos simplified the steps of taking public transit and made the process more understandable and accessible for those unfamiliar with the transit system. Many of the videos are being used in training sessions, while others have appeared as ads on social media.
